Explain this result

Adding GST: GST = price × rate ÷ 100, total = price + GST.

Removing GST: price before GST = inclusive price × 100 ÷ (100 + rate), GST = inclusive price − price before GST.

At 18%: price before GST ₹10,000.00 + GST ₹1,800.00 = ₹11,800.00. Within a state the GST is split equally into CGST and SGST (9% each); on inter-state sales the full 18% is IGST.

Frequently asked questions

How do I remove GST from a price?

Divide the GST-inclusive price by (1 + rate/100). For ₹11,800 at 18%: 11,800 ÷ 1.18 = ₹10,000 before GST, so the GST is ₹1,800.

When is IGST charged instead of CGST and SGST?

IGST applies when the supplier and the place of supply are in different states (inter-state). Within one state, CGST and SGST are charged in equal halves.
