Explain this result
Your expenses of ₹50,000 a month grow with inflation (6.00%) for 30 years, reaching ₹2,87,175 a month when you retire.
The corpus must pay that amount – rising with inflation every year – for 25 years while it earns 8.00%. That is a growing annuity: Corpus = W × (1 − xN) ÷ (1 − x), where W is the first year's expenses, x = (1 + inflation) ÷ (1 + return) and N the years in retirement = ₹6,94,68,933.
Your current savings could grow to ₹1,79,74,821. The gap of ₹5,14,94,112 is met by investing about ₹14,588 a month at 12.00%.
Frequently asked questions
What is FIRE?
Financial Independence, Retire Early – saving and investing aggressively so that your investments can cover your expenses well before 60.
Is 25 times annual expenses enough?
The "25x rule" comes from US data. In India, with higher inflation, many planners suggest 30–40x for early retirees. This calculator works it out from your own assumptions.

Worked example
Age 30, retiring at 60, spending ₹50,000 a month today. At 6% inflation, that becomes about ₹2.87 lakh a month by 60. To fund it until age 85 (earning 8% after retirement), you need a corpus of about ₹6.95 crore. With ₹5 lakh already saved and 12% returns before retirement, a SIP of about ₹14,600 a month closes the gap.
How to use it
- Enter today’s monthly expenses – not your salary.
- Keep inflation at 6% or higher; healthcare costs rise faster.
- Use cautious returns: lower after retirement, when you move to safer investments.
Tips
- Start early: every 5-year delay sharply increases the monthly SIP needed.
- EPF, PPF and gratuity all count toward your corpus.
- Keep 6–12 months of expenses in an emergency fund outside the corpus.
